In Greek mythology, Medusa is an iconic figure. Once a priestess, she was transformed into a gorgon by Athena after being attacked by Poseidon. In some versions of the myth, this was done to protect Medusa from ever being attacked again by giving her the power to turn others to stone. Some see her as a powerful protective figure and an embodiment of feminine power.
